Every year on May 1, International Labour Day is
celebrated to honor the success and achievements of every hard work
across the world. In India, labour’s day is declared a national holiday.
The first labour’s day was celebrated in 1923 in Chennai. There are more than
80 countries celebrating labour’s day on May 1 as International worker’s day or
May Day. However, the United States of America and Canada celebrate labour’s
day on the first Monday of September. The day celebrates the hard work and
achievements of the working community. This day is also known as May Day,
this day remains people about the rights of workers. On this occasion of mayday, people across the world celebrate by conducting protests, marching, and
strikes for the rights of workers and to save them from exploitation. Due to
the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the celebration may look different as
everything might happen virtually. The Mayday is dedicated to the economic and
social achievements of workers and also as honor the dedication and
contribution of the working community to the development of the nation. Mainly,
Labour unions celebrate the day with parades and parties that address their
issues and concerns to their respective higher authorities. The day is very
significant for preserving the rights of workers and expressing their demands
to the company and the government.
